X-ray Distant Cluster Project

CLASH footprint

The X-ray Distant Cluster Project is a medium-sized collaboration that has discovered more than 40 distant (z>0.8) X-ray luminous clusters using archival XMM-Newton X-ray observations. The candidate clusters have been targeted with optical and near-infrared follow-up imaging using ESO and Calar Alto telescopes and confirmed with spectroscopy using FORS2 at the Very Large Telescope.

The clean resulting sample is ideal for studies of cosmology, cluster physics and galaxy populations. Our group member Miguel Verdugo investigates the galaxy populations in these distant systems utilizing Spitzer infrared imaging and ground-based observations.
